![]() ![]() i also love chili burgers, chili cheese dogs, frito pies, and a good cold shiner (beer). i'm a texas girl, and that means i grill/bbq when hubby isn't around. thai, sushi, curry, morroccan, brazilian, french, you name it. i've never met a stinky cheese i didn't eat. I still have a secret fondness for lucky charms and the insides of oreos. i look forward to my occassional trips to central market and specs downtown. i buy organic when i can, but don't sweat it when i can't. i spend extra money for fresh herbs and spices because i believe i can taste the difference. I have a passion for fresh quality ingredients. i don't like to cook with canned soup, i think cool whip is an evil abomination, and i think the only purpose for iodized salt is to de-ice things. i could live the rest of my life without eating octopus again. I've decided i'm not a fan of tea sandwiches and that i can't bake a decent biscuit. our food these days is filled with more color and variety, in part because fresh fruits and vegetables make for better photos. the act of photographing my food has altered the way i cook. Zaar has helped me discover a new passion - food photography. i have rosemary, sage, thyme, catnip, dill, basil, mint, and bay laurel growing in pots for my fresh herbs. My fall garden has tomatos (fingers crossed), radishes, broccoli, chineese cabbage, and onions. quality ingredients and visually appealing food really do make a difference. the common theme is that flavor and presentation still matter. the big difference is that now things tend to be faster, simpler, and healthier than 5 years ago. i'm slowly but surely returning to my pre-baby roots and beginning to take pride in what i cook again. Like most mothers of young children, i've seen my share of pb&j and processed toddler friendly foods. when hubby travels, i tend to rely on OAMC to make sure i eat well and feel taken care of. he is my partner in cooking, photographing, raising kids, and every other aspect of life. oldest is "in process" of potty training and youngest is just now sleeping thru the night. the boys are only 16 months apart, so i always have my hands full. after 10 years as a project manager in high tech, i'm now a happy sahm. My name is susan and i'm the proud momma of 2 boys. By the time lunch comes around, the sandwich is thawed and just right. With regard to school lunches, I also recommend making a month's worth of these sandwiches and freezing them in individual baggies for quick lunch prep. You'll still get the sweet, just not as much and the bread doesn't get soggy. I recommend just putting a thinner layer of jelly or spread directly on the bread. Also, with regard to on reviewer's tip to put the peanut butter on both sides of the bread to keep it from becoming soggy, in theory that sounds great except for the fact that the jelly tends to just slide out from between the peanut butter layers. My own family's preference is for strawberry spread instead of grape jelly. Do people really need a recipe for a pb& j sandwich? Yes this is a classic and yes it is 5 stars, though I honestly can't credit gourmetmomma for this, no offense intended, I mean this pb&j combo has to have been around since Adam and Eve, right? With regard to the recipe, I do have a couple of things to say. Ok so I saw this "recipe" and thought "you've got to be kidding!". ![]() This recipe is 5 stars for obvious reasons. I will be now eating nothing but this, as something this tasty certainly cant be bad for you. I've seem to have eaten all of the jam in the house, so I have ordered more over the internet. The smooth taste of the strawberry jam calms the spice of the peanut butter anyhow, and I will now declare this incredibly complicated treat a delicacy in all known countries. The bread was a little spicy from the peanut butter, but my buds have matured enough to appreciate this. The complex flavor profile is overtaking. Aside from this fact, the complexities from these two spreads compliment each other in beautiful ways. My taste buds are popping as I write this, and its quite honestly starting to worry me. The children at my child's school have probably never seen this before, and I don't want to explode their simple minds. I would send my kid to school with this sandwich, but I don't want people to think he is weird as this sandwich is very creative. My hand is very sticky now, but this creation is worth it. I would have preferred to use a knife, but it did not say to do this, so I used my hand. However, once you get the hang of it, it is amazing. It is rather difficult to measure peanut butter in a table spoon without getting it all over your fingers. Very original!!! It was a bit complex to follow. I never thought to put these two ingredients together. ![]()
